CD Mastering Options For Beginners

There are several different methods you can use to master a CD. It's not the cheapest option but many choose to use professional CD mastering engineers. Mastering engineers generally work in their own facilities, which are usually different than recording studios. Everything is designed specifically to get the best possible playback so any errors can be corrected.

If you don't have the funds for this you could try mastering at home using your own computer and some mastering software. For any musicians or artists who are just starting out this would be the most affordable option. The quality of the software and the skill of the operator doing the mastering can make or break the mastering process. The difference in quality between recordings usually comes down to the mastering. When you listen to a tune on the radio it’s the mastering that gives it the high quality sound you hear.

Unless you're really strapped for cash a professional CD mastering engineer is your best option for generating interest in your music.

  1. Hi Pfeva Rock! Great advice on "Mastering options for beginners". Mastering is one of the mysterious processes in which most beginners have no clue even exist let alone no what it is. Teaching at the Los Angeles Recording school our mastering class is one of my favorite labs I enjoy teaching as I can see the light bulb go on for my students. Its a big day in their audio career in understanding why there songs don't sound like everything else does like on the radio as far as quality and volume. Great advice for anyone wanting their music to be heard by their fans. Mastering makes all the difference. Thanks again for the great post!

  2. Hi Pfeva...great post on mastering options. I am not an artist, DJ or producer but I gained a better understanding of why it is important to have your project mastered. I always felt that a good studio mix was good enough, considering that is how Master P did it when he was launching No Limit Records, he would go straight to radio and pressing with a good studio mix.

    Great post!
